ValueClick Revenues Up 79 Percent Last Year
ValueClick has reported record fourth-quarter revenues of $160 million, up 38 percent from $116 million in the year-ago period; net income was $22 million, or 22 cents a share, up from $14 million, or 14 cents a share a year ago.
For the year, ValueClick reported revenue of $545 million, an increase of $241 million, or 79 percent, from revenue of $304 million in 2005. Net income was $63 million, up from $40 million in 2005.
The company said the better-than-anticipated results were in part because of the successful integration of E-Babylon, Webclients and Fastclick, all of which it acquired in 2005. ValueClick also owns Commission Junction, ValueClick Media, Mediaplex and PriceRunner.
For 2007, ValueClick said it is expecting revenue of $645-$665 million and earnings per share of 78-80 cents; it said it expects $148-$149 million in Q1 revenue.
"The leadership positions we have built in performance-based marketing solutions and value-added online networks give us confidence to anticipate continued strong growth of healthy margins in 2007," James Zarley, ValueClick Chairman and CEO, said in a statement.
There have been rumors ValueClick may sell off Commission Junction. The parent company has been criticized for not paying sufficient attention to its behemoth advertising network and not valuing affiliate marketing.
BBC Online Advertising Plans 'Not Satisfactory'
The BBC has been asked to rethink plans to carry advertising on Auntie’s websites accessed from outside the UK.
The BBC Trust, which governs the organisation, said it is not currently satisfied it has all the information necessary to reach a decision as to whether BBC.com should carry ads.
The Trust has asked BBC management to investigate the matter further, looking at how advertising revenue would be reinvested in BBC Global News and the BBC's UK public services for the benefit of license fee payers.
The BBC could stand to make up to $206m (£105m) per year if it does go ahead with a plan to put ads on its international homepage and news websites, according to an independent report filed last year.
The organisation is looking to online advertising to make up for the fact it's not allowed to use the license fee for international online expansion.
A final decision from the Trust on online advertising is expected this spring
